Great Magnesium. Helps with relaxing

I use this Magnesium in combination with Melatonin at night for a superb sleep!
Besides all the most known benefits of Magnesium, it also helps to calm your mind and relax your nerves if taken at night. Combined with Melatonin, it gives me a very restful night sleep! Recommended!

Good product and very good deal, expires in 3 years, tablets are somewhat large.

My doctor told me that I need to take 200 mg of magnesium supplement daily so here we go. Number one issue was to find a 200 mg supplement, they all tend to be either 150, or 250, or some other amount. This one has 400 mg in 2 tablets, so we have exactly 200 mg in one, great! The second issue was to choose from magnesium oxide vs citrate vs glycinate. Which one to get? After reading a lot of articles on the internet and to save you some time I can tell that glycinate is the best choice (but also the most expensive), then comes very close citrate, and the worst form is oxide, which you should avoid by all means. A longer explanation will be at the end of the review.

It's well packaged, maybe a little too well because I had trouble removing the seal under the cap - it's too damn good glued and I had to use a knife to cut it out. It has enough supply of magnesium to keep you going for eight months, the capsules are standard size just like any other nutrition supplement of this type, they are large and for some people might not be easy to swallow with water. Basically, there is nothing special about them. The expiration date is almost in three years, my bottle has the date stamp 06/2025 stamped on it (today is 07/2022), which is very good. I just started to use it and so far, I have no complaints about it. I don't have any negative reactions and it's too early to talk about its positive effects, I need to build up magnesium level concentration in the body to feel the difference.

So, I don't have any complaints about the product itself or its cost, but I have a complaint about how it is marketed. When you look at the bottle label face it only says, "400 mg, 250 tablets, dietary supplement", so one would assume that it has 250 tablets each containing 400 mg of magnesium. Oh, but wait, if you turn the bottle around and check supplement facts it actually says that "Serving size 2 tablets, Serving per container 125". So, what we have here is not 250 x 400 mg daily servings, but only 250 x 200 mg apparently! Wow, this is a really misleading statement on the front. This wasn't a surprise for me because I was looking for 200 mg tablets anyway and carefully inspected all details of the product before ordering, but you should be aware of this fact.

Now a little science dive. Magnesium citrate is a magnesium molecule that is bound to citric acid; magnesium glycinate (also known as bisglycinate) is magnesium that is bound to the amino acid glycine; magnesium oxide is a salt that combines magnesium and oxygen. One of the most bioavailable forms of magnesium is an ionic magnesium citrate, which is almost completely absorbed by the body. Compare this to magnesium oxide, which has a 4% absorption rate, and you start to get a picture of why it matters. Both magnesium glycinate and citrate have high absorption rates. But magnesium glycinate is better tolerated than magnesium citrate. So, if magnesium citrate is causing digestive problems, you should try switching to magnesium glycinate.

*** TL;DR ***
Yes, I recommend this supplement. It has the right dosage of 200 mg in each tablet just as my doctor prescribed and is very competitively priced. It's one of the best forms of magnesium - citrate. I only don't like how it is marketed as a 250 x 400 mg daily supplement, while in reality it's 125 x 400 mg only but it's minor and I knew it already when I was ordering it. Therefore, I'm giving it 5 stars.

+++ Pros +++
1) Just the right amount of magnesium.
2) Whole 3-year expiration date.
3) 250 capsules, good to go for eight months.
4) Very cheap, it's like 10 bucks.
5) So far, no negative effects.

--- Cons ---
1) Tablets are large, not easy to swallow.
2) Not 250 x 400 mg, it's 250 x 200 mg.
3) Packaging seal is hard to open.

Pills too large and unsure if it's working

I've taken other magnesium citrate of even lower dose, and I could tell they worked. This one, I'm unsure after a couple weeks of using. The worst thing about this product is the size of the pills. I have zero trouble swallowing pills normally and can usually take a handful at once, but these are ridiculously difficult to swallow. I've even taken to breaking them into multiple pieces, which is not difficult since they arrived with many of them broken into several pieces already. Keep a lot of water on hand when taking. I wish I'd bought another brand of softgels and definitely will look elsewhere next time.

Get Great Sleep

These pills are huge and kind of powdery. There is no way I can swallow them, even if I cut them in half, so I chew them up. I don't like the taste, BUT when I take them, I can get into a deep, deep sleep. I always take them about 30 minutes before I want to go to sleep and I'm good to go. These work better than melatonin for me. The price is right, and the quality is great. Yes, it would be easier if I could swallow them, but the results are so good, I've gotten used to chewing them up. I take 3. They are also really helpful with regularity.
