FINALLY, a vegan, soy-free protein powder for people with herpes, and it's not made in China!
FINALLY, somebody has made a soy-free, vegan protein powder for those of us who suffer from herpes! I am in LOVE with this protein powder. In addition to being vegan, I have a fun overlap of health issues (herpes, PCOS, and underactive thyroid), which makes it so that I need to avoid soy, animal products, and carbs, while maintaining an intake of amino acids composed of much more lysine than arginine. Sadly, the last two requirements are virtually impossible to find in the vegan world. I can't tell you how ecstatic I was to finally find a protein powder with a high ratio of lysine to arginine that is also low-carb! No more breakouts. This is an incredible selling point for this product for me. And the fact that I don't have to worry about it being processed in China is really wonderful too. Oh, and it doesn't have any disgustingly sweet artificial sweeteners! Thank you so much for making this product. Please don't change a thing. I have been looking for a product that satisfies all of these requirements for years. I wish I could give it more stars. Now, for those of you who prefer things in list-form:

Pros:
- Vegan
- Soy-free
- More lysine (1,800mg) than arginine (1,000mg)
- Low carb
- No gross artificial sweetener
- Made in the US and not China
- Simple ingredients

Cons:
- I wish I could get a bigger container!

I like to make a smoothie out of it, and blend it with about a cup of water and a bit of frozen berries, orange, some carrot and apple, jalapeno, fresh ginger, kale, spirulina, cacao, lime, and a bit of cinnamon. Delicious!

No grit, barely detectable in juice, vegan, DEFINITELY GOT 1 POUND**
This is the best protein powder I have tried. I am not vegan, but I have pretty violent stomach upsets when consuming whey in large amounts, so whey protein is a no-go for me. That led to me trying various vegan protein powders. I tried many of the popular brands from health food stores, and this one is the least gritty of all that I tried. I can barely even tell that there is a texture difference at all when mixed with almond milk or juice. The flavor is best described as a "nothing" flavor. It dulls the intensity of the flavor of whatever you put it in, but doesn't actually alter the taste. Hopefully that makes sense.

I tried mixing it two ways when I got it: (1) One scoop in a 16oz smoothie with strawberries, pineapples, and almond milk and (2) One scoop in 10oz of the popular 50 calorie per serving brand of orange juice. Surprisingly, mixing it in the orange juice tastes the best to me. I dropped the scoop of powder in a clean, dry glass, poured about 4 ounces of the juice on it, mixed it thoroughly with a spoon, and then added the extra 6 ounces and mixed that with a spoon. No blender necessary to get it to dissolve well.

I also want to point out that I absolutely hate chalky, gritty textures. I'm super sensitive to them (which is why I only did one scoop in my tests above). When I did this method with the orange juice and drank it all pretty quickly before the powder had a chance to settle, I had no mental or physical aversion to the texture when drinking it. It really surprised me. Drinking 20oz vs the recommended 16oz to get two scoops in there isn't a big deal in my opinion. Very pleased with this product, and I am going to enjoy baking with it as well!

**For anyone worried about the "half full!" one star reviews: they aren't paying attention. There IS 1 pound of powder in this half-full jar. Putting 1 pound of powder in a jar with air space at the top doesn't suddenly make it not 1 pound of powder. I weighed the whole jar and it was 1.3 pounds. People will literally complain about anything won't they?**

what happened, new batch is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE TASTING!
what happened, the last time I bought this it was great, I never tasted a better chocolate protein.

Then they were out of stock for a few months and when I finally was able to order again, the taste totally changed.

Was the recipe changed or did I get a bad batch? it's so terrible I can't even stand it. I'm really upset, what did you do to your Raw Chocolate flavor Pro-mix?!!!

High quality at decent price
I usually don't take the time to write reviews but seeing this product is averaging only 3.5 stars makes me feel bad. Especially after reading the 1 star reviews I feel the need to express my opinion.

I've been consuming 1 to 2 serving sizes of the product (plain & unflavored) since about 3 years. If you do the Math that's roughly 60 lbs. I could write a long examination on the value of protein powder (but others have already done the work much better than I ever could). But let's face it, it's unnecessary unless you are a very ambitious pro lifter, don't have the time or desire to eat. Otherwise, you are better off spending your money on real food. And if go to the gym 4 times per week & you believe you have to gulp your Whey Shake 15 seconds after your "workout" to make your gains (!) - do the research. You don't. You also really don't need that much protein. At all (just google Leucin, MTor, etc.). Anyway, let's get to the point: I continue to use this product because I just like the taste of it. That's it. It provides this really, earthy flavor which I just love. I mix it with cocoa powder and cocoa nibs and sometimes add wheatgrass. I also like to put it in coffee sometimes. Often times I heat that up in the MW and feel I'm drinking such a rich, pure chocolate. I have 3 of them for dinner - no problem. It blends not great but OK. I understand taste is subjective, so try it and make up your mind. I just prefer something natural. It's not sweet at all (which I love).

A few shout outs on other 1 stars I read and would like to provide my view & context:
I never had any issues with best before dates. In fact, I never pay attention to it anyway. As long as it's not clumping in the jar I don't see an issue. And bear in mind: it's a "best before date" the supplier has to put on there due to FDA regulations and it's not an "expiration date" (google helps - once again).

I also didn't see a change in formula or taste over the last 3 years.

Super clean powder, not for the feint of palate
I opted to begin using a plant derived protein supplement because whey powders were just tormenting my stomach. This was one of the few complete protein options that includes both pea as well as brown rice proteins in one formula and is free of artificial ingredients and added sugars. So as far as the health profile it is an 5-star powder that leaves my stomach feeling normal.

Where I take issue with the product is the taste. I wasn’t expecting this to taste great from the outset, it is unflavored after all and I’ve tried a lot of unflavored powders in my day. Unlike other reviewers I found the taste to be overbearing no matter what is mixed into it.

My primary purpose for buying unflavored is to avoid sugars altogether, so having to add a number of other things to mask a strong unsavory flavor sure feels counter productive. For myself a clean protein is the most important factor so I don’t mind chugging this like a tequila shot, but if you are sensitive to icky flavors and/or are looking for something that’s tastes decent and blends well with other ingredients this is probably not it.

UPDATE: After months of regular use I became more accustomed to the taste of this protein and did not have the same reflexive response to it that I did during the initial trial period. I tried a variety of fruits and vegetable mix-ins and found a simple recipe of a banana with cacao powder was the best combo to take the pea-ness down a notch.

Great If you are not used to artificial flavors and ingredients
Compared to other vegan protein powders without the added nasty sugar this is a good option. I will not sit here and tell you that this tastes amazing but with some almond milk and ice I can drink this without having to hold my nose. I do recommend it to my health conscience folks. Ohhh I forgot to mention, no hives!!! I had no allergic reaction to it as I do with many other protein powders, vitamins, herbs and well almost anything else.
