High quality, harder to mix

Verified

I discovered this product after reading a Consumer Reports article on Whey protein drinks. Alot of them contained contaminants like lead and arsenic in trace amounts, some higher than government recommended limits. Solgar was one of the only brands that had pretty much zero on all measured contaminants. It's clearly a high quality product. The flavor is good as well, it has a good natural chocolate taste. The only trouble I have with this stuff is that it doesn't mix up quite as easily as some other whey protein mixes I have tried. It takes more effort to mix it totally and often times stirring it in with a spoon does not do the job. That won't stop me from buying it.

Sugars: 6gm, Protein: 16gm

Usually people who drink protein shakes are those who workout and try to get better results from their gym time by adding to their diet extra.... protein... for faster recovery and larger muscle mass. Such people should NORMALLY also watch their carbs... less fat means leaner body and muscles. (carbs = fat)

While this powder is awesome in that it does not contain any unnatural JUNK (which most other powders do), it under-delivers on it's actual purpose: PROTEIN! and it also contains relatively lots of carbs.

Their serving size is rather small and delivers only 16gm of protein, and 8gm of carbs, 6gm of which are sugar. You can actually SEE the sugar in the powder... 16gm of protein is really not enough for most people so you would need to take 1.5 servings bringing you to a total of 24gm protein and 9gm sugar.

Just for comparison - a double chocolate-chip cookie will have about 12 grams of sugar! So this shake will make it hard for you to lose fat.

It tastes "ok" and it actually dissolves better in water than in milk. (milk will add more sugar to your shake but that's another story).

Solgar should cut the amount of sugar in this product by half, that would make it a much better choice for many... you can't really feel it anyway and people who buy this shake buy it because its healthier, not because it tastes good. If they wanted something that tastes good they would order a pizza. So adding those carbs just doesn't make senses.

EDIT:

Checkout this product: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001OP0RS/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0962060879&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0JKXJQ7YN0KHV8YYPWN1 100% natural but zero carbs.

Finally, a healthy whey protein!

Verified

Its unbelievable the amount of junk products on the market today. Most people who intake whey protein are people who are active and wanting to better their health, yet 99.8% of whey is chock full of artificial sugars and other various cancer causing chemicals, this seems counter productive to me. Whey to go goes beyond that and they use protein from cows who aren't injected with rBGH. I love this whey protein, you get more protein per serving so that you're not taking 2-3 scoops at a time which makes it last longer, the flavor is good, and most importantly, its not giving you cancer while you take it! Its about time companies step up to the plate and make a quality product that focuses on health, not taste.

Love the taste

Verified

I was really skeptical about trying this product, but I'm so happy I took a chance. I have lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and I absolutely love the chocolate flavor. I drink in for breakfast & lunch with a snack in between and have a lean sensible dinner. I don't feel hungry.

The Best!

Verified

I've been using this for something like 15+ years. It blends better than any other protein powder Ive tried and I appreciate that it is unsweetened. I've recently tried some vegan pea protein powders, etc, but they just can't compared with the flavor and mouth-feel of this product. Have been ordering it on Amazon since my local Whole Foods store in Monterey, CA stopped carrying it (likely to promote their own brand?). I've since moved to a rural area and this is the only way to ensure I can get it.

I began using Solgar's Vanilla flavor in smoothies but found I *really don't like the taste*, which, while they call it a "natural flavor" is doubtless produced by GMO yeasts. If you want to learn more about that truly important issue, search for "Vanilla Queen" and learn from her site how these so-called "natural" vanilla flavors actually threaten the sustainability of *real vanilla* production. Vanilla is actually my favorite flavor but Solgar's is unfortunately really fake-tasting. Too bad.

So I switched over to the cocoa flavor and my typical breakfast is what I call a "hot chocolate smoothie":
16 oz unsweetened almond milk (I use vanilla flavored), warmed
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder (don't use Dutch process if you want the flavonoids)
heaping 1/4 teaspoon good quality Stevia powder (sometimes I add a couple droppersful of liquid)
1 tablespoon flax seed oil
1 measure Solgar Whey To Go chocolate flavored protein powder
I usually whisk ingredients as I add them, then since this is a warm drink, I use an immersion blender to bend it.

Yum – satisfying, sugar-free, high protein breakfast!

CHANGED FORMULA IS DISGUSTING/POISON DO NOT BUY

Verified

This was the ONLY protein powder I could find that wasn't PACKED full of poisonous sugar alternatives. Used to have beet juice and cane sugar, was DELICIOUS and only 27 grams of sugar per serving which is perfectly acceptable. Now it's full of stevia and basically poison. Completely disappointed. No way to justify the fact that two years ago it was 25$ and now it's 45$ and they even changed the formula with cheaper, lesser ingredients. Disgusting.
