tatses good

A nice way to take omega 3 , tastes better, less burping compared to fish oil pills. Easy to chew, flavor ok

C grade flavor, some what rubbery consistency for picky palates

Although these gummies have the necessary Omega 3 and DHA daily amount needed for pre-teens, they barely passed the taste test. My kid says he gets a fishy taste at first bite, which doesn’t please him and although they do have a lemony/ citrusy taste afterward, they are somewhat rubbery while chewing. I tasted them and find that he described them pretty well. He eats them but doesn’t seem to chew on them much before swallowing, and instructions recommend chewing thoroughly, so I’m not sure if he’s getting all the nutrition they contain.

Decent option

Overall this is a decent option for some omegas. It has a bit of a weird citrus fish taste. Not my favorite tasting but not terrible either. Certainly better than a lot of brands!

This is a good way to get some omega in your diet. It tastes good enough that a child will likely eat it. I would likely try this again.

Good way to get Omega 3

These gummies are made for kids, with kid-size doses of Omego 3 and DHA. They are citrus flavored, although there is a noticeable "fishy" taste.

They are easy to chew and swallow.

These are important nutrients, so give them a try.

Doesn’t taste very good

Per 2 Gummies:

Active Ingredients: Omega-3 (Chia Oil & DHA) 183 mg total, consisting of: Omega-3 (Alpha Linolenic Acid) 87 mg, Omega-6 (Linoleic Acid) 43 mg, Omega-9 (Oleic Acid) 20 mg, DHA (from algae) 33 mg.

Other Ingredients: Glucose syrup, sugar, glucose, corn starch modified, water, malic acid, natural flavors, sodium citrate, natural colors (annatto and turmeric), coconut oil and carnauba wax.

PROS

1. Fresh, soft, easy to chew.
2. Vegan: the omega-3 fatty acids in these gummies are derived from chia, the DHA is derived from algae, and there is no gelatin.
3. Made in the USA.
4. No gummy supplements are ever inexpensive, but this brand seems to be the least expensive of the various supplements of this type currently offered on Amazon.

CONS

1. These gummies don’t taste very good. The added sugar and flavoring in these gummies have not been able to disguise the “fishy” taste of the algae.
2. The dosage of omega-3 fatty acids contained in 2 of these gummies is a total of 87 mg, or a mere 43 mg. per gummy. The DHA is 33 mg or a mere 17 mg per gummy. As an alternative, adding chia, flax or hemp seeds to the child’s daily diet can provide far more nutritive value than a supplement like this one. (See below.)
3. The product information states the DHA is derived from an unspecified type of algae. If it is Schizochytrium algae, which would be perfectly acceptable, the manufacturer should clearly state that on the product label.
4. Like all gummy candy, these gummy supplement are high in sugar and very sticky, which means, in order to protect the child’s dental health, it is crucial to brush and floss very soon after consuming them.

INFORMATION ABOUT OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS

There are three main types of omega-3 fatty acids whose health benefits have been well researched. These include DHA, EPA and ALA:

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are called marine omega-3 fatty acids, because they are found, fully bioavailable, in fatty fish and certain algae, most especially the algae, Schizochytrium. (See references below.)

Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is found in plant sources such as green leafy vegetables, soybeans, walnuts, and seeds such as chia, flax, and hemp, with flaxseeds containing the highest amount. It is important to note that, in order to obtain omega-3 health benefits from these sources, the body must first convert the ALA into EPA and DHA, and this conversion process is inefficient in humans. On average, only 1-10% of ALA is converted into EPA, and only 1-5% into DHA. The amount of the conversion is also impacted by the availability in the body of adequate amounts of the following nutrients: B6, B7, calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, and iron, which most vegans and vegetarians probably already supplement in their diet (especially B vitamins). Note that the U.S Institute of Medicine recommends a daily ALA intake of 1600 mg. per day for men and 1100 mg. per day for women. It is difficult to obtain remotely enough ALA simply from leafy greens because, for example, 1 cup of raw spinach only has 40 mg. of ALA, and 1 cup of raw kale only has a little more ALA at 120 mg. But If a vegan or vegetarian is willing to add the following seeds and nuts to their diet on a regular basis, it is easily possible to obtain an adequate dose of EPA and DHA from the diet alone:

One ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds provides 4,915 mg of ALA. The body would convert this to between 49-490 mg. of EPA and 49-245 mg DHA.

One ounce (28 grams) of flaxseeds contains 6,388 mg of ALA. The body would convert this to between 64-640 mg. of EPA and 64-320 mg DHA.

One ounce (28 grams) of hemp seeds contains 6,000 mg of ALA. The body would convert this to between 60-600 mg. of EPA and 60-300 mg DHA.

One ounce (28 grams) of walnuts contains 2,542 mg of ALA. The body would convert this to between 25-254 mg. of EPA and 25-127 mg DHA.

NOTE: Chia, flax or hemp seeds can easily be added to a child’s daily, delicious fruit smoothie. These seeds simultaneously provide omega-3, healthy protein, and dietary fiber, as well as the 2-3 servings of fruit within the smoothie. The smoothie can be served at any time but it can especially serve to give the child an excellent start to the day. Of the three types of seeds listed above, hemp contains the most protein, and it has a very mild taste. I personally grind up these seeds in a coffee/spice grinder so that they become an easily digested powder before adding them to my smoothies. Seeds that are not ground up may not be fully digested and may simply become expensive fiber.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS

Research has indicated that the most health benefits are obtained from an omega-3 supplement which offers a combination of EPA and DHA. Some of these benefits include:

1. Anti-inflammatory. Research indicates that this supplement can help reduce inflammation. This is very important because, over the course of many decades, an abundance of scientific research has indicated that inflammation is either the direct cause or a major contributing factor in virtually all disease, including especially: cancer, heart disease and autoimmune disorders such as arthritis.

2. Prevents heart disease and stroke. Research indicates that this supplement can help reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, lower blood pressure, and increase blood flow by improving the ability of blood vessels to dilate normally.

3. Improved eye health. Research indicates that this supplement can help reduce the incidence of dry eyes, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma.

4. Improved brain function. Research indicates that this supplement can help improve mental clarity and lower the risk of dementia.

RELEVANT RESEARCH

Cerino, P., et al.
