A good basic type I & III collagen peptides supplement

About four months ago, I was offered a free 10.6oz jar of Healthy Origins Collagen Peptides for review via the Amazon Vine Program, and I accepted.

I've been using various brands of collagen peptides for over three years - mostly type I & III. I can't be 100% clinically certain, but collagen peptides seem to have done a lot of good for the health of my gut, skin and nails - so I'm definitely a fan.

The Healthy Origins Collagen Peptides arrives in a resealable 11.6oz plastic jar. I prefer plastic jars over bags for collagen peptides as they offer the easiest, fuss-free usage as collagen peptides go airborne very easily. There is a fairly standard plastic serving scoop in the jar.

This is a basic type I & III collagen peptides powder. It does not contain additional ingredients. According to the product description, this is packaged in the USA, in a cGMP facility, using collagen sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised Brazilian bovine. So the origin information provided is complete, which is refreshing as most collagen supplements are vague about the origins of the bovine or where it is manufactured.

Probably unlike most people who add collagen peptides to liquid for consumption, such as coffee, I tend to add them directly to my meals whenever possible. It's easy to add them directly to things like lentils, soups, sauces and many other dishes. However, for the purpose of this review, I tested this Healthy Origins Collagen Peptides in both hot and cold liquids. It doesn't dissolve quite as fast as some of the fastest dissolving peptides I've used in the past, such as [[ASIN:B0887JLVZP Left Coast Performance]], [[ASIN:B00XQ2XGAA Sports Research (Type I & III)]] or [[ASIN:B07BL69CD2 Orgain]], but it does dissolve better than many other type I, II, III, V & X collagen peptides. Like most collagen peptides, it dissolves notably faster in hot liquids than cold. In my experience, all unflavored collagen peptides add at least some very subtle flavor, usually similar to a very, very weak salt. Contrary to it's claims, this is no exception. Depending on what you put it in, you may or may not be able to detect it, if that matters to you.

In all honesty, I tend to purchase the cheapest collagen peptides I can per ounce and stock up when I see sales. There are huge price differences between various brands and aside from differences in they way they dissolve, I seriously doubt there is much actual difference in the efficacy at different price points when compared with other type I & III peptides. I am willing to pay a higher price for the more complete type I, II, III, V & X peptides. I try to get certified grass fed whenever possible and would never purchase *any* labelled to have *anything* to do with China. Ingredients from Brazil are okay, but the USA is preferred.

As of the time of this review, this Healthy Origins Collagen Peptides is right on target to maybe a little high for what I consider to be a reasonable price for a basic type I & III collagen peptides supplement at $1.48 per ounce. I've seen some good type I & III collagen peptides that I've used for as low as $1.09/ounce. I've seen others at well over $2/ounce and higher. Based on the price and how well it dissolves (average), I'd give this four stars. And note that there are some EXCELLENT, more complete type I, II, III, V & X collagen peptides supplements that come in at about $1.50 per ounce compared to this simpler type I & III supplement, such as my current favorite [[ASIN:B0887JLVZP Left Coast Performance Multi-Collagen]]. It is a type I, II, III, V & X collagen peptides supplement. It also contains Hyaluronic Acid and Biotin. It is a *much better* value with 90 servings per 2lb jar.

A bit pricey for the amount in the container.

I've been using collagen peptides for many years and have tried quite a number of brands. This Healthy Origins Collagen Peptides is 10.6 oz. in a plastic container. Note that all brands sell by weight so I was not surprised when the container was not full--that is typical. The collagen is from grass-fed bovine and is non-GMO. It's a fine powder, mostly tasteless and when I add it to my morning coffee and mix it with a handheld frother it blends well. The label on the Healthy Origins canister says it provides 9 grams of protein. Be aware of the following: collagen protein does not count toward the FDA recommended Percent Daily Value for protein because it lacks one essential amino acid: tryptophan.

Collagen Peptides

I have been using this (in my morning coffee) for about a month. I have noticed that my nails are in much better shape now as some of them had grooves (figured it was from old age) but they are straightening out. I don't taste this in my coffee which is a plus! Hopefully, as I continue on with this regimen I'll see some other bonuses (like waking up looking like I'm 16 again! Hey dream big!)

As good as any other collagen

All unflavored collagen products taste the same to me, so I order based upon price and brand. Healthy Origins is a good brand and the price of the product is certainly appealing.

Tasteless

I received the brand Healthy Origins.. collagen peptides through the Amazon vine program. I’ve been using a different brand of collagen peptides for several months now. So, I started using this powder right after I ran out of the other brand. The benefits I’ve saw after using collagen peptides in general are amazing! I’ve seen a huge difference in my skin, nails and just recently starting to see a difference in my hair. I have rotator cuff issues and that also feels better as well. This powder is tasteless, it’s just one scoop a day. I put it in my morning /evening coffee daily. I couldn’t do a full scoop once a day because it bothered my stomach and caused bloating. So I started doing a half scoop and then worked my way up to a full scoop. I still don’t do a full scoop in one shot. I do half in the morning and half in the evening. The reason I deducted one star is because upon opening I noticed it wasn’t filled all the way. It was about 1/3 down. It’s only 10.6 oz, so I feel that’s a little crazy. Also, the scooper was ALL THE WAY towards the bottom. Which would’ve been a huge inconvenience if I didn’t save the scoop from the other brand. All and all I love the collagen peptides and would highly recommend!!

Great to add to beverages, etc., blends well, almost 3 years left of shelf life

Received: September 2021
Best By: July 2024

Adding collagen to my regimen of biotin and occasional gelatin helped me have stronger nails. I hope it’s also helping my joints! I usually blend this with coffee, which works really well.

I’m very pleased with how flavorless and easily blended this Healthy Origins Collagen Peptides Powder is, which makes it easy to incorporate into drinks, gummies, etc. Just what I was looking for.

As the parent of kiddos with autism, there are causes near and dear to my heart.
