I started researching magnesium supplements online and read and double checked the really good reviews on Designs for Health on

I don't really trust reviews, even on Amazon as there are so many fake/paid for reviews now.
I am writing this review because I owe it the makers of this product. I have had a port placed in my upper chest for the last 5 years because my magnesium was dangerously low (1.1).
In the beginning I tried Slo Mag, and every other OTC product and nothing worked. Finally my hematologist resigned to port placement and weekly infusions of magnesium.
The hospital protocol was: blood work to determine mag level- if below 1.8 infuse for 3 hours and then re check within 72 hours.
EVERY single time they rechecked there was NO CHANGE. So another infusion within 72 hours and recheck. And then another infusion and re check. This charade went on for 5 years. I had to quit my job and couldn't even qualify for disability in California, even though I was in the hospital 3 days a week.
I started researching magnesium supplements online and read and double checked the really good reviews on Designs for Health on Amazon.
I was very skeptical when I received my first order but took it religiously 4 capsules a day. Within a month my magnesium levels were rising and for the first time in 5 years I was going in once a month for infusions.
2 months ago I had them surgically remove the port and I have been taking JUST the DFH mag capsules and my magnesium is up to 1.8 ( low, but not low enough to need an infusion). Goodbye thrice weekly hospital visits and hello life!
I want to emphasize this :
I AM NOT PAID FOR THIS REVIEW AND DID NOT RECEIVE THIS PRODUCT AT ANY DISCOUNT FOR THIS REVIEW. I HAVE NO AFFILIATION WITH THIS COMPANY.
That said, the product is not cheap, especially for how many I take each day, so if DFH wants to employ me as a spokesperson -bring it on!
Kidding, not kidding.
But seriously it's nice to have my life back.

No "Manufactured on" Date?!?

The supplement is great but beware of who you buy it from. I take tons of Designs for Health supplements and ALL of them, including my last Magnesium Buffered Chelate contain either a Manufactured on or Expiration Date on the section of the label that is pictured. I'm quite concerned that this is a fake!

Noticeably effective

I've used several types of magnesium supplements as part of a migraine-prevention regimen. I started out using magnesium oxide (the kind you'll find in supermarkets under brands like Nature Made), but saw zero effect. I then switched to a magnesium citrate formula sold by GNC, but those led to immediate gastrointestinal side effects which never went away during the couple of months I took them.

Enter magnesium glycinate and this formula from Designs for Health. The benefit of magnesium glycinate is that it is very well-absorbed by the body, which means that it isn't simply passing through your system and causing all the intestinal adventures that you get from other forms. As a result, I don't have to take doses as high as I used to take; one of these 150 mg capsules daily is enough for me. I have noticed a reduction in headaches -- a welcome surprise, given the unusual hot-to-cold weather patterns we experience here in the South each spring. I feel more relaxed, and my sleep is improving as well.

love the product but concerned about quality control

I have been using this product for years. This is the first time I have ordered from Amazon. I was shocked when I sprinkled the can into my hand for my evening vitamin. A capsule landed in my hand that was empty and looked tampered with. It was cloudy and had the appearance that there once had been powder inside. The capsule looked torn, but in-tact as a capsule, if that makes sense. I am wondering if the batches sold on Amazon are seconds? Very concerning.

ingredients are new and unpleasant.

This is bisglycinate not glycinate. And it's a blend of magnesium oxcide which was not in the original formula that had magnesium glycinate. Albion changed its bufferering agent and had to label it. It made my stomach very upset. Not the same. It's over processed now and not what I will buy Again. The buyer was a great experience... Fast delivery. Just not a good product.

Great form of magnesium

I've been taking this magnesium for a couple of years now and I love it. I originally had a magnesium deficiency that was causing nauseau, tingling in the extremities, anxiety, heart palpitations, night sweats and insomnia (thought it was menopause @ 40!) All that stopped after a few days on this product, and I'm so grateful to the doctor that recommended it to me. Now I take one every evening and it helps settle me down to go to sleep. If I haven't been eating my leafy greens, then I'll take two. It has never caused loose bowels for me like some other forms have. Love it!
