I had a reaction to the product so I contacted Source Naturals to see what their source was and even though it states "NO CORN"; I received the following response from them:
According to our raw material supplier files, the ascorbic acid starting material currently used in the Magnesium Ascorbate product is specifically derived from a fermentation of tapioca and corn.
Kind regards,
Kayla Traber
Technical Researcher
Threshold Enterprises, LTD
Source Naturals/Planetary Herbals

Great for those who want the benefits of Vit C and magnesium combined.

Great stuff. It's sour as heck and hard to drink but the benefits outweigh the risks. I mix it with a mixture of orange juice & apple juice. It blends with the citrus taste and the sweetness of the apple makes it more palatable. I also plan to use it in making liposomal C. Just be advised, if you're not familiar with Vit C preparations, Vit C in high doses has a laxative effect. Magnesium has a laxative effect. The two combined....well to say they have a laxative effect would be an understatement.

Magnesium Ascorbate Crystals

Great value, especially if regular Vitamin C powder upsets your stomach.

Sticking with the Tabs

I had been using the SN Mag Ascorbate tablets for some time now, with great success, to address not only Vitamin C needs but also to greatly assist in bowel prep (TMI perhaps, and yet critical to my point). I decided to try out the powder version for purely economic reasons, and it would appear that my ability to go #2 was SEVERELY impacted (quite literally). A key difference between the tablets and the powder is that the tablets have a cellulose coating, and perhaps this coating helps shield the active ingredients from being completely decimated by gastric juices, and thus allowing the minerals to work their magic. What I believe may be happening is that powder--in not having such a coating--is having its efficacy significantly reduced by being literally washed away by your stomach acids and pancreatic enzymes. Bottom line, I will revert to the SN Mag Ascorbate tablets, which is a G-dsend for people like me with reflux who wish to get their Vitamin C in non-acidic form.
