Collagen Glow, skin health specific blend with Sea Buckthorn Fruit

Cutting to the chase, if you don't want to read the details. This is good, I'll update in a month or so, but the powder is palatable, mixes in hot coffee and in Smoothies. Slight scent and flavor but more herb like and could be the 'green' of the sea buckthorn powder coming through.

You can smell the sea buckthorn in this powder. I hadn't really paid much attention to Sea Buckthorn, but have seen it listed in products over the decades. Sea Buckthorn from China is also known as the vitamin fruit powder and claims many health benefits.

I had been using the same collagen, happily, for almost two years when the quality took a big nose dive. It smelled like a dead animal. It's one thing to know where the collagen comes from, it's another to have your nose and taste buds remind you, necrotic is not good. I must mention this because I want people to know that if your collagen smells bad, it's a deal breaker and it's beyond crazy to think we should tolerate that. I use unflavored collagen now for a reason, I want to know what I am putting in my body. The health effects are also important. I've felt horrible after eating the bad collagen products, and my skin showed no healthy glow. I noticed improved skin hydration, less snake skin or crepiness and ashy flakes after only a few short days when I use good quality collagen. I use 2 or 3 tablespoons of powder once or twice a day. I've tried products that do nothing but upset my intestines and throw me off, no healthy skin at all. Going into trying this new collagen, I am a bit more optimistic since I have a long history of experience with the New Chapter brand and tend to trust them. I've used many of their system specific products for health purposes. PMS and other issues are pretty obvious and the New Chapter women's supplements helped me through some rough times in my 30s. Now, in my mid 50s I am having issues with my skin, and add to that joint and mobility issues which is way scarier than wrinkles. Clicking hips, fussy knees! So, collagen is something I really do not want to lose as a daily supplement due to a backslide in industry standards.

Even though I use collagen in a smoothie, typically, the bad collagen will ruin a perfectly good smoothie. There is no way to mask that flavor. I know I'm not getting to it and I keep talking about the bad experiences I've had. Well they are jarring and unforgettable. I don't want you to go through that ever. How is this collagen's flavor and scent? It's good, it's light, not bad at all. There isn't any way to say that collagen tastes good. At best it'll be about the same as the old knox gelatin we used to have for hair and nails, use in jams and jellies or pudding, custards? Supposedly this collagen isn't gelatin because it has the types 1 2 and 3 collagen and it's better because it has these specific types of collagen. I have no lab, I'll just have to trust that this is true and that we are not all being over charged for another fad product like everything 'keto' these days.

Prices seem to be creeping up, significantly. This product is on the expensive side, but New Chapter is a premium brand and you pay for the trusted brand and their promised high standards and practices and their quality. With the issues in the collagen industry, perhaps the price is warranted if it promises to be a tolerable powder, a reliable supply and delivers the health benefits we expect. I know these things are all valuable to me, and eases my mind. One could say that the higher price is because there is Sea Buckthorn in it, maybe this is true at least in part, and that makes sense too.

I'm writing this review now, but will update in a month. I think it's important to use the product for a while to see how the benefits build and sustain over time, but I fully expect this collagen powder to perform well. A few days is all you need to see improvements in skin hydration, but aches and pains, wrinkles and elasticity will take more time. I found this powder easy to dissolve in hot coffee using a spoon to stir until it was completely melted in solution. I used stevia as a sweetener and I can't detect a bad taste or smell while hot. As it cooled I could smell and taste the powder but it's just a flavor, not a particular flavor and it's not unpleasant or striking. I would not be able to taste this in a smoothie or juice. I would be able to taste this in plain warm or hot water or tea, but again, it isn't bad or like necrotic flesh. This is serious, and I need to mention that because there are products out there on the market and no one should ever have to come into contact with that. Ever. This is not one of those products, thank goodness. I'm glad that there is a palatable collagen available. The price is competitive for the volume and added sea buckthorn. Cheers!

Clean flavor

Love this collagen and really like that my smoothies taste no different when I use it. Protein levels are great and calories are low. Not sure on the sustained energy, but like the idea.

Would not buy again! Tastes & smells bad

I was excited to try this but highly disappointed! It smells so gross and worst of all tastes bad & does not mix in but instead creates clumps. Tried a few different drink options and nothing worked or tasted right.

I can mix this in with anything

it is tasteless, which is great if you want to add it to your own smoothies. Collagen helps with joints and bones. It also helps with your hair, nails and skin. The plant protein has calcium, which is what gives you the extra calcium. This helps your body so much. I have been using collagen for almost a year and I have less pain in my joints.
