I have Lupus, Ehler-Danlos and Fibromyalgia. I have been on many different medications, including pain medications, for years. I started these in an effort to lose weight, as I have struggled with my weight my whole life though I eat exceptionally well (Really. Think kale, tons of veggies, lean protein, olive oil, no dairy, no sucrose (only fructose) and few select whole grain high fiber carbs.) and exercise 6 days a week (weight training + cardio, for 1-2 hrs). As it turns out, Lactobacillus acidophilus can also cause one to GAIN weight. I figured this out the hard way. No, the Lactobacillus gasseri included that theoretically can help weight loss did NOT help. I'm 10 pounds up now and finally figured out that it wasn't just me not doing more or less, however I looked at it - because we are always taught to blame ourselves. I figured it out because I nearly cut out all carbs last week, did my usual exercise, and gained two pounds, to finally land me at 10 pounds up in just a few months and feeling REALLY disappointed and upset. I didn't expect that this would be a quick fix, as I know healthy weight loss is done by eating enough healthy calories, exercise and long term lifestyle changes, but I am very disappointed that things actually got worse for me than they already were. This 10 pound gain over several months can't simply be explained by water weight, hormonal fluctuations or muscle gain. Probiotics made me absorb calories more than I did before.
