Not real vitamin C
Do not buy this, or any vitamin C that says only Ascorbic acid. Over 90% of ascorbic acid in this country is manufactured at a facility in Nutley, New Jersey, owned by Hoffman-LaRoche, one of the world’s biggest drug manufacturers (1 800 526 0189). Here ascorbic acid is made from a process involving cornstarch and volatile acids. Most U.S. vitamin companies then buy the bulk ascorbic acid from this single facility. After that, marketing takes over. Each company makes its own labels, its own claims, and its own formulations, each one claiming to have the superior form of vitamin C, even though it all came from the same place, and it’s really not vitamin C at all.

Fractionated = Synthetic = Crystalline = Fake

Contains corn
On the packaging it says: "Other ingredients: none. Contains corn." If you want to avoid (GMO?) corn when you take vitamin C, don't buy this product. It should be mentioned in the product description.

The 454 gram bottle effectively contains 90 servings of 4 gr of vitamin C, which total 360 gram. This means that the remaining 94 gram or almost 20% of this product is corn.

I am getting near the end of the bottle and there are a lot of yellowish granules in the powder, the product generally tastes bitter and acidic (i.e. is not well-buffered), and it doesn't dissolve all that well in water, half just sinks to the bottom.

If you are low on a budget, don't worry about the ingredients, and take it to improve bowel movements, this product might do it for you. Otherwise, go with something else.

Not real vitamin C
I’m using LifeExtention Buffered Vitamin C Powder for more than one year.
The reason of using this product is because:
The Vitamin C is Ascorbic Acid (acidic).
Our body absorbs only Ascorbates as Na, K, Ca, Mg Ascorbates so Vitamin C uses our body minerals to react with Ascorbic Acid. The buffered Vitamin C has all necessary minerals K, Ca, Mg included.
Buying a Powder product is cheaper and easy to control the dosage.
I never take one serving size 4000mb Vit C at once, but I take it by increments of 1000mg 4 times a day. Our body can absorb 1000 mg Vit C per hour. I never take more than 2000 mg man made (Vit C) because I take a lot natural L-ascorbic Acid using fresh Fruits and vegetables.
Regarding the Label:
All my bottles in a period of one year never changed the label:
Serving Size q Rounded Teaspoon powder (approx. 5.4g)
Vitamin C 4000mg
Calcium 145mg
Magnesium 55 mg
Zinc 2 mg
Potassium 365 mg
Other ingredients: none
Non-GMO.
I am well aware that this is a man made Synthetic Vitamin C.
Synthetic Vitamin C unless labeled L-Ascorbic Acid, is a mixture 50% -50% of two diastereomers L- Ascorbic Acid and D-Ascorbic Acid.
So the strength is 50 % of the natural product. For that reason I take 1000mg Vitamin C (500mg L-Ascorbic acid) per serving and the rest I gets naturally by Fruits and Vegetables rich with Vitamin C. Some times I take 4 doses of 1000mg Vitamin C (500mg L-Ascorbic acid) one hour before a mill or two hours after a mill but never later than 6 PM.
If anybody doesn’t trust the label then he/she may look for another product as naturally Vitamin C extracted by fruits.
Update 2/14/2020
After searching diligently the Industrial Production of Vitamin C , the types of Vitamin C, and Labeling of Vitamin C products, I decreased from 5 stars to 1 star.
Do not buy this, or any vitamin C that says only Ascorbic acid.
Vitamin C can appear on the ingredient label as several different names, but the one you want is L-ascorbic acid, which is the only bio effective. If L-Ascorbic Acid doesn’t appear on the Label, then do not buy the product.
Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid or L-ascorbate) is a metabolite with strong antioxidant activity and a cofactor for enzymes catalyzing numerous biochemical reactions, including those neutralizing the effects of reactive oxygen species. It is also a necessary nutrient for a limited number of animals, including humans, that are incapable of its synthesis, and that must secure vitamin C by means of dietary uptake.
Even today industrial methods for the production of ascorbic acid can be based on the Reichstein process, which ends in a mixture of 50% L- Ascorbic acid and 50 % D- Ascorbic acid, or erythroascorbic acid.
There is a new technology for production of L- Ascorbic acid in two steps.
It is produced from D-glucose by a combination of chemical and biotechnological steps. The fermentative conversion of D-sorbitol to 2-keto L-gulonic acid (2-KGA), is the current industry standard for L-Asc production.
There is another buffered vitamin C labeled as L-Ascorbic Acid, on sale in Amazon. Most likely made in China with the new Direct Microbial Routes to Vitamin C (L - Ascorbic) Production, which is used widely in China.
If you bought the bottle, as I did, do not recycle it. The potency is 50% so if you take 1000 mg Ascorbic cid, be aware that you are getting 500 mg L-Ascorbic Acid, and 500 mg D - Ascorbic Acid, or Erythroascorbic acid, which is not Vitamin C because has ZERO Bioavailability

We don't get sick anymore!
This a a great product for daily use and for fighting off illness. The buffering minerals allow you to consume a much higher dose of vitamin C (4,000 mg) - other Vitamin C products would cause stomach pain. The higher doses allow you to fight off illness.

I use 1 tsp daily (4,000 mg) and if I start to feel a cold or fatigue I up my dose to 1 tsp 3 times a day until I feel good again. Since I've been doing this, I don't get sick anymore. When I up my dosage it does cause some digestive distress but I'd rather deal with that then get sick. I'll take gas over a cold any day. Some people get digestive distress with just 1 dose, but I found if they wait about 5-10 until it's fully disolved and drink it with food, they are fine. If the still have issues, I tell them to try half a dose and that usually solves the problem. But then I recommend working up to a full dose because it's the high doses that help to fight off illness.

This product helps my asthma too and I no longer have to use asthma medication...which has helped my training.I use to get several colds a year and some would turn in to bronchitis but since I started this and using some of their other vitamins - I'm free and clear of colds. In fact the first time I used this I noticed an immediate difference in my asthma.

As far as flavor goes, it kinda tastes like lemon water and I don't drink the contents that have settled in the bottom of the glass....it doesn't tastes very good. As long as you let it dissolve for 5-10 minutes, the vitamins are all in the water. It's best with cold water.

This is the statement I received from Life Extension regarding corn in their product. "On the question concerning corn as an allergen in the Buffered C Powder LEF 0084 The originating source is corn. The technology is such that the method using a two-step fermentation process is as follows: Corn> Glucose > Sorbitol + fermentation > Sorbose + fermentation > Keto-Gluconic acid > ascorbic acid. Through the manufacturing process the ascorbic acid is so refined that there is no corn or constituents found in the ascorbic acid. So although the start is corn as you can see through the process there is no corn left in the Vitamin C (ascorbic acid). These ingredients are fine chemicals that have compendial standards to very high purity; 00927 does not have corn."

Great Vitamin C
Great Vitamin C. Doesn't taste wonderful, but it does a great job of keeping colds away. My 5 year old was staying sick and missing so much school. My mom is a nurse and gave me a bottle of this and told me, since he was young, to give a 1/2 tsp. at least once a day but better twice a day. My son missed 2 or 3 days the whole year in 1st grade versus about 25 days in kindergarten. I did exactly what my mom said, which to give it to him before he ate on a empty stomach and if it bothered his stomach give him food first. My son went from catching everything every kid had to offer as far as cold and flus, to catching one cold the whole school year. Some may say that this is kind of expensive, but it is cheaper than paying doctor bills and buying prescriptions and OTC medicines. Worth the money and my home is never without.

Life Extension. THE “SENSITIVE” VITAMIN C
If you have a sensitive digestive system, it can be a challenge to ingest higher amounts of vitamin C. Our Buffered Vitamin C Powder formula addresses this by including four buffering minerals that, when mixed with water, is non-irritating to the stomach. WHAT IS ASCORBIC ACID?
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a substance found in citrus fruits. As an antioxidant, vitamin C scavenges free radicals in the body and protects tissue from oxidative stress. This essential vitamin also promotes the absorption of iron, while inhibiting its oxidation. It’s also a vital to producing collagen: a key protein for tendons, arteries, skin, bones and teeth. CELLULAR PROTECTION WHEN STRESS HITS
More vitamin C is required during times of stress. Physical stresses may also increase the need for vitamin C. But it can be challenging for your stomach to handle higher intakes. Our formula contains nutrients that help produce a lower-acid option when mixed with water for sensitive tissues. INGREDIENTS MATTER - Sourced using only the finest raw ingredients with the purity and potency your body deserves. The majority of our products are non-GMO, gluten-free, and manufactured in the USA—and a Certificate of Analysis is available for every product we produce.
