FINALLY, a GREAT tasting bariatric MV!

I had RNY gastric bypass in 2009 so 8 years later you can imagine how many different types of bariatric multi-vits I've tried. ALL of them were chewable pills that tasted like chalk and super hard to gag down or large pills that were hard to swallow. This is my first time finding a gummy multi-vit for bariatric peeps and omg I'm so happy I found this. These nearly melt in your mouth. They are great tasting. I mean, its not like candy but it's something I actually look forward to having. Plus, it helps my body get the nutrients it needs to survive after gastric bypass. I'll definitely be purchasing these as my forever MV's going forward. Thank you!

Try it. You will not be sorry.

This vitamin has a great taste, and meets and or exceeds my need. It is only lacking in calcium which I feel most comfortable taking separately anyway. I would highly recommend this vitamin due to price, vitamin content, and taste.

Missing ~10 Vitamins & Minerals and Inadequate in at least 3 Others - NOT a true "bariatric product"

I work as a bariatric dietitian at a university medical center. I am reviewing this product because a patient of mine bought a bottle and showed me a picture. People need to know that this is NOT a “bariatric” multivitamin. It is lacking in almost every vitamin and mineral required after surgery. There are even children’s multivitamins that are several times more potent and balanced than this product, though I’m not recommending those either. To be specific, this product is missing Vitamin B1, B2, B3, K, iron, copper, calcium, magnesium, chromium, molybdenum. It also contains inadequate amounts of zinc, vitamin D and vitamin B12.

You can have a deficiency in many of these vitamins or minerals even if your surgeon says “your blood levels are normal.” This is because no bariatric surgery program I am aware of tests every possible vitamin or mineral in the blood. For example, the bariatric surgeons I work with do not routinely test for vitamin B2, B3, copper, zinc or selenium deficiencies after surgery (all of which are missing or inadequate in this product).

If you take this product as your only multivitamin after a gastric sleeve or bypass, you will likely also need to take a vitamin B-50 complex, vitamin B12, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, vitamin D, and calcium with vitamin K at a minimum. This is at least 7 extra pills a day compared to a true “bariatric” multi and 4 extra pills a day compared to a regular complete over the counter multi.

Let’s take a look at the vitamins/minerals missing in this product:
-Vitamin B1- a deficiency can cause death, dementia, paralysis, psychosis, heart failure & neuropathy. This is probably the most deadly vitamin deficiency.
-Vitamin B2 - a deficiency can cause painful cracking along the lips that can get infected
-Vitamin B3 - a deficiency can cause dementia, diarrhea, painful lesions on hands and feet, painful inflamed mouth and eventually death if untreated.
-Vitamin K - deficiency can cause bleeding, bruising and poor bone health
-Iron- a deficiency can cause anemia, fatigue and hair loss
-Copper - A deficiency can cause impaired immune system, neuropathy and anemia
-Selenium - a deficiency increases the risk of Keshan’s Disease, heart failure caused by a specific virus
-Calcium - a deficiency can cause weak or brittle bones
-Magnesium - to be honest this usually isn’t present in high amounts in most multis, but there should be some
-Chromium - this is a trace mineral that should be present in very small amounts
-Molybdenum - this is a trace mineral that should be present in very small amounts

Let's take a look at the vitamins and minerals that are not present in the amounts recommended by ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery):
-Zinc: 5mg per serving (recommended amount is 8-22mg/day). Zinc deficiency can cause hair loss, fatigue, impaired wound healing and altered taste.
-Vitamin D: 400 IU per serving (recommended amount is 3,000 IU per day). A deficiency can cause muscle aches or weakness, bone pain and increased risk of fractures.
-Vitamin B12: 8 mcg per serving (recommended amount is 350-1000 mcg per day). A deficiency can cause anemia and irreversible neurological damage.

Of course taking something is better than nothing, but this product is pretty much as close to nothing as you can get. If you are having trouble with your more complete multi, try the following before using this product: take it with food or 30 minutes after food, take it in the evening instead of the morning, switch to capsules if you are at least 1.5-6 months out from surgery, suck instead of chew, crush and mix with shake/yogurt/applesauce, etc, break it up into smaller doses and take more frequently. You can also experiment with different brands or try a multi without iron and supplement with iron protein succinylate (less irritating form of iron) separately. Ask your bariatric dietitian for more tips.

Essentially this product has the same problems as other gummy multivitamins. It’s just more expensive. Shame on the owner for marketing it as a product designed for bariatric surgery patients. If you choose to take this because you can’t keep anything else down, that is one thing, but I can’t think of any other reason to choose this product.

taste good

I like the taste but the gummies don't have the required amount of each vitamin my doctor recommends I take.
