A critically important human probiotic that colonizes the gut
I am what I'd consider a probiotics connoisseur. I lactoferment a wide variety of things at home with wild yeast (sauerkraut, sourdough, mead, kombucha, rejuvelac, yogurt, etc...) and I've spent a good deal of time researching many probiotics that aren't the commonly known ones sold in stores that everyone knows about (and which are a waste of time).

I got interested in Reuteri after reading tons and tons of literature about how critical it is to just about everything in and on the body. Amazon won't let me post links in this review, but there is a staggering amount of research about Reuteri, which happens to be the probiotic that is in human breast milk and is responsible for colonizing babies' GI systems which becomes the foundation of their immune systems. Since babies don't produce stomach acid, the Reuteri goes right through the GI tract undigested. Since we adults obviously produce stomach acid, these pills are enteric coated to make sure the probiotics get to where they need to be without getting killed off by stomach acid.

One of the the important things to keep in mind about probiotics is that there are two categories:

(1) The type that DON'T colonize. These may exert some beneficial results as they pass through the digestive tract, but once they exit the other end they are gone for good. This would be probiotics found in yogurt and most of what is commonly sold in stores. Don't get me wrong, these probiotics have a place, but since they don't colonize, their action is limited and you must constantly take them.

(2) The type that DO colonize. These are considered 'human' probiotics, and Reuteri is an example. (Another example in this category is Clostridium butyricum). These strains are normally produced within the gut but may be reduced or completely destroyed as a result of antibiotics, aggressive viruses in the virome, a diet that doesn't support them, etc... The good things about these probiotics is that after doing a good supplementation, they should stick around and continue doing good things behind the scenes. Probiotics not only keep pathogenic bacteria and yeasts in check, but they exert a powerful influence over neurotransmitters (which affect mental health) and actually produce certain vitamins. Lactobacillus Fermentum actually produces and recycles glutathione and improves heart and liver health!

A few weeks ago, I ate something against my better judgement that didn't smell right. Afterwards, I started developing some chronic GI distress that appeared to be a pathogenic bacteria taking up permanent residence in my gut. Not having my go-to probiotics on hand, I decided to give these Reuteri pearls a shot, since I'd recently ordered them. After about 2 days of taking these, my GI system was happy again. I finished the box for extra measure, and I will probably reorder these again in the future as a 'booster'. Let me know if you have any questions and consider letting me know if you found this review helpful.

*I have noticed that several reviews I have written on items purchased through Amazon have had the "Verified Purchase" removed incorrectly and as a result are no longer visible, which is likely happening to other people as well. When you read reviews, be sure to sort by 'All reviews' since there is obviously a bug in the system and many helpful and detailed reviews are now hidden.

Good stuff
I'm using these primarily to keep bacterial vaginosis at bay - Reuteri is one of only two types of probiotics that crosses the digestive tract to help maintain a healthy vaginal bacterial balance. It took a few months to do its job, and for a while I used several other products to kick start it, but now so far so good. I like the Pearls because you don't have to store them in the refrigerator... a HUGE benefit especially when traveling!!!!!!!! It also does work on the digestive tract, of course, so you get all the ... ahem ... REGULAR ... benefits of probiotic use. ;-)

Great product especially for women
Bought this mainly for the good reviews on its effect on BV. Got mirena a couple months back and it's been nothing but a nightmare. I took 2 of these pills a day for 3 days and all my symptoms are gone. Highly recommend!!

If you have BV and nothing else has worked, you should definitely try this
I had been researching for well over a year for a remedy for what I knew was a case of BV, even though my doctor could not find anything in my annual culture to indicate it. She offered antibiotics, but they aren't a long-term solution and frequently make things worse once you complete the course. One day, I started the research process again hoping to uncover some new miracle and eventually landed on Amazon reviews for this product. It was pretty inexpensive and nothing else had worked, so I said what the heck.

This stuff literally cleared up my symptoms in less than 48 hours. I thought it had to be fluke, but I have been taking it daily and they have not returned. I honestly don't know if it's the particular strain (L. reuteri) or what that worked for me, but if you've tried everything else, this is worth a shot. Plus, it's shelf-stable so you can travel with it and taking a daily probiotic has other health benefits. I'll go completely mental if they stop making this!

Good Combination of Strains
The formula of this probiotic seems to be ideal for recovering from antibiotics, in my opinion.

Acidolphis NCFM has been studied to reduce bloating.
Longum BB536 has been studied to regulate bowel flow rate and act as a mediator for different microbes, specifically after anti-biotics.
Rhamnosus LR-32 has been studied to reduce candida and infection, assisting the immune system fight pathogens.
Reuteri SD5865 is good for blood sugar control and also for keeping other microbes in check, especially in the upper GI.

I’ve only taken these for 2 days and the impact on my mood has been amazing. I don’t tolerate probiotics well at all and on day 2, as I always do, I have begun to develop some fatigue and brain fog, as well as stomach movement. But unlike others, this feels like it’s improving my gut rather than just messing with it.

It has soy in it, not recommended for people with thyroid issues
I bought this based on so much rave how it's good for bacterial vaginosis (BV), which is when the pH is off in women. Not realizing that one of the ingredients in this is soy. If you have thyroid issues, like me, soy is something I have to avoid. So, this is not something I would take on a regular basis. I will try it out, but sadly, soy is one thing I can't have in my diet.
